Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup is still months away, but leaks surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro are already beginning to paint a clearer picture of what users can expect. The latest report suggests Apple could introduce one of the biggest visual changes to the front display since the Dynamic Island debuted in 2022.

According to newly surfaced CAD renders, the iPhone 18 Pro may feature a noticeably smaller Dynamic Island, potentially marking Apple’s first major step toward a true all-screen iPhone design.
iPhone 18 Pro CAD Renders Hint at Smaller Dynamic Island
The CAD renders are reportedly based on technical schematics shared with accessory manufacturers ahead of case production — a source that has historically offered early clues about upcoming iPhone designs. As per the leak, the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro could measure around 14.98mm in width, making it nearly 25 percent smaller compared to the one expected on the iPhone 17 Pro. Earlier rumours had already pointed toward a reduction in size, with some reports suggesting Apple was targeting a shrinkage of up to 35 percent.
Apple May Move Face ID Components Under the Display
The reduced cutout size is reportedly possible because Apple could move part of the Face ID hardware beneath the display panel. Specifically, the flood illuminator may sit under the screen, while the infrared camera is still expected to remain visible through a smaller cutout.

If accurate, the change would represent a significant hardware redesign for Apple’s facial recognition system. However, it also suggests the company is not yet ready to deliver a completely uninterrupted full-screen display. The Dynamic Island was first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in September 2022, replacing the long-standing notch design. Since then, Apple has gradually refined the cutout, although the changes across generations have remained relatively minor.
Apple Reportedly Testing Multiple Display Designs
Previous reports have indicated that Apple has been experimenting with different front-panel configurations for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup as part of its internal A/B testing process.

One prototype is said to retain the current display mould, while another introduces a smaller ‘Mini Dynamic Island’. If Apple ultimately decides to reuse existing manufacturing moulds for efficiency or cost reasons, the Dynamic Island design may remain largely unchanged despite the ongoing rumours. That possibility becomes particularly relevant amid reports that Apple is aiming to keep pricing competitive for the iPhone 18 series, even as component costs continue to rise globally.
Rear Camera Design May Stay Familiar
While the front display could see a noticeable upgrade, the rear design of the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to remain mostly unchanged. Leaks suggest Apple will continue using the rectangular camera plateau introduced in previous generations, although the company may refine the materials, finish, and detailing around the camera module.
