Private AI on WhatsApp? Meta Introduces Disappearing Incognito Conversations
Meta has introduced incognito AI chats on WhatsApp, enabling private conversations that disappear after closing the app while maintaining encryption.

Meta now has a new feature in WhatsApp: an ‘incognito’ conversation  with its Meta AI Chatbot. The company stated that all conversations will be processed privately. This means that neither the user’s messages nor the AI’s responses will be monitored by the company.

On Private Conversation with AI

Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp, stated, “People want to have private conversations with AI on sensitive subjects, including health, relationships and finances and I don’t want them to be accessible to others.” “We think it’s really important to give people the ability to ask these questions as privately as possible,” Alice Newton -Rex, VP of Product at WhatsApp, added.

Meta further mentioned that these incognito conversations will not be saved and they will disappear by default once the user closes the chat. Meta AI will also lose access to the conversation once the app is closed or the phone is locked. The company has reportedly been working on securing AI chats for over a year. In 2025, WhatsApp developed AI features without compromising end-to-end encryption, including AI- powered message summaries.
