OpenAI is bringing its frontier AI models and Codex agentic workflows to Google Cloud, giving enterprise customers another way to access and deploy advanced AI models within their existing cloud environment.

Under the partnership, OpenAI models will be added to Google Cloud’s Model Garden, allowing developers, data scientists and businesses to discover and use them alongside other AI models available on the platform.

The move is aimed at organisations looking to build AI agents, modernise software development and run complex AI workloads at scale. It also gives Google Cloud customers more flexibility when choosing which AI model best fits a particular task.

What is OpenAI bringing to Google Cloud?

OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex agentic workflows will be made available through Google Cloud’s Model Garden. Model Garden acts as a central environment where Google Cloud customers can discover and work with different AI models. By adding OpenAI models to the platform, enterprises can access them without moving their AI development workflows to a separate environment.

The integration is particularly relevant for businesses already using Google Cloud infrastructure for software development, data analytics and AI applications. OpenAI said the partnership will allow enterprises to use its models for complex agentic workflows while relying on Google Cloud’s infrastructure and data governance capabilities.

Why is the partnership important for businesses?

For enterprises, choosing an AI model is not only about performance. Businesses also need to consider how models interact with company data, who can access that information and how AI workloads are managed. These concerns become more important in industries that handle sensitive or regulated information.

The OpenAI-Google Cloud integration is designed to combine OpenAI’s frontier models with Google Cloud’s access controls, centralised data governance and high-performance infrastructure. This could make the models more attractive to organisations that already have their AI workloads and data infrastructure on Google Cloud.

OpenAI models will be available through Google Cloud Marketplace

Google Cloud customers will be able to purchase OpenAI’s frontier models through Model Garden, with transactions handled through the Google Cloud Marketplace. For enterprises with existing Google Cloud spending commitments, purchases of OpenAI models will also be eligible to draw down against their GCP commitments.

This gives existing Google Cloud customers a more direct route to adopting OpenAI models without creating an entirely separate purchasing arrangement.

OpenAI models are also coming to Google Antigravity and Gemini Agent

The partnership will extend beyond Model Garden. OpenAI models are expected to become available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent, giving enterprise users greater flexibility in choosing models for different tasks.

The idea is to allow businesses to evaluate different models and select the one that best matches a particular workload, rather than relying on a single model across every use case. As businesses increasingly use AI agents for software development and other complex tasks, model choice is becoming an important part of enterprise AI strategy.

What OpenAI and Google Cloud said

Greg Brockman, President and co-founder of OpenAI, said the partnership will make OpenAI’s models and Codex available in an environment where many businesses are already developing AI applications.

“Google Cloud is a leading platform for developers and businesses building AI agents, writing software, and putting AI to work. This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building, giving them even more choice in how they use frontier AI as we grow the agentic ecosystem together.”

Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer of Google Cloud, said the company wants customers to have a wider selection of AI models so they can choose according to their specific requirements.

“We are focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job, helping to deliver optimal quality and lower costs.”

When will OpenAI models be available on Google Cloud?

General availability is planned for the coming weeks. Google Cloud customers will then be able to access OpenAI’s frontier models through Model Garden, with purchases available through the Google Cloud Marketplace.

The partnership expands the number of frontier AI options available to Google Cloud customers and strengthens the platform’s position as a destination for enterprises experimenting with and deploying AI agents. Microsoft, meanwhile, remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.
