Perplexity AI has unveiled its most ambitious product yet, Perplexity Computer, a new platform designed to coordinate multiple AI models and execute complex workflows with minimal human intervention.

Unlike conventional AI assistants that rely on a single large language model, Perplexity Computer distributes tasks across a network of specialised models. Each component of a user’s request, whether it involves research, reasoning, coding, or content creation, it is directed to the model best equipped to handle it. The result is a more tailored and efficient approach to completing multifaceted assignments.

Moving Beyond the Chat Interface

Perplexity Computer is positioned as more than an advanced chatbot. The company describes it as a unified “digital worker” capable of breaking down broader objectives into manageable subtasks and completing them independently. From gathering information and analysing documents to writing and debugging code, the system is built to manage projects end-to-end.

By coordinating multiple AI sub-agents simultaneously, the platform can execute parallel processes, allowing different elements of a project to progress at the same time. This structure aims to reduce friction in workflows that would otherwise require switching between tools or manual oversight.

An Orchestration Layer for AI Workflows

CEO Aravind Srinivas describes the platform as an orchestration layer that brings together AI models, cloud services, files, browser access, and persistent memory into a single operational framework. Instead of functioning as a standalone model, Perplexity Computer acts as a coordinator, assigning tasks to specialised systems based on their individual strengths.

At launch, the platform supports roughly 19 specialised models. This modular structure not only enhances performance but also gives users greater visibility and control over usage, including cost management, since processing is tied to how resources are deployed.

Availability and Access

Perplexity Computer is currently rolling out to subscribers on the company’s highest-tier plan. Access is usage-based rather than limited to a flat subscription, reflecting the resource-intensive nature of multi-model orchestration. The offering includes browser interaction, document analysis, and integrated tool support, expanding its functionality beyond traditional AI search and query handling.

With Perplexity Computer, the company is signalling a shift toward AI systems that function less as passive assistants and more as coordinated execution engines, capable of managing complex digital tasks within a single, structured environment.
