Perplexity’s WhatsApp service faced a disruption sometime back today owing to the unprecedented traffic, according to the CEO. Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity’s CEO, posted on X, “ Perplexity’s WhatsApp bot has seen unprecedented demand—volume is far beyond anything we anticipated.” He further adds that the company has taken it down to address some issues and is also trying its best to restore the services as early as possible.
The service was restored today in the early morning, as known by the post of the CEO on X, where he says, ”Perplexity is back up and running on WhatsApp again.” The all-new Perplexity bot on WhatsApp allows users to forward its voice notes and other critical pieces of media to attain various purposes, ranging from analysis to fact-checking, among others.

AI in Group Chats: The Disruptor
The company is preparing to launch a groundbreaking feature as part of its WhatsApp integration: Group Chat. While the company acknowledges that implementing this within WhatsApp poses technical challenges, it is working closely with Meta to bring the feature to users. In addition, the WhatsApp integration will include agentic capabilities, allowing users to delegate tasks to an AI-powered browser that can act on their behalf.

AI Power on WhatsApp
This development marks a major leap in making Perplexity more accessible. By extending AI capabilities to regions with limited or unreliable internet connectivity, the company is pushing forward the conversation on equitable access to technology. This is a significant step towards achieving universal AI inclusion, as it transforms the notion of net neutrality into a more comprehensive concept of AI neutrality, enabling cutting-edge technology to be accessible to users worldwide.
