Google is transforming the way we shop for clothes online. The tech giant has begun rolling out its AI-powered virtual try-on feature in the US, a tool designed to help users see how different outfits would look on them—without stepping foot into a dressing room.

How It Works: Try On in a Few Simple Taps

To use the new tool, users can head to Google Shopping and tap any listed apparel product. Alternatively, on Google Images or AI Mode, users can search for a style or outfit and select an item from the results. If the feature is available, a “try it on” icon will appear. Tapping on it prompts the user to upload a full-body photo of themselves. Once uploaded, Google’s AI kicks in, rendering a realistic image of how the clothing would appear on their body. This virtual fitting room experience is powered by a fashion-specific AI image generation model. It is trained to understand the nuances of the human form and how various fabrics behave—whether they drape, stretch, or fold—across different body types.

More Than Just a Mirror

Google’s virtual try-on feature doesn’t stop at visualisation. Users can scroll through previously tried-on outfits, save their favourite looks, and even share them with friends for feedback. This adds a social and personalised dimension to online shopping that many users have been craving.

Smarter Price Tracking Comes Along Too

Alongside this virtual upgrade, Google is also refining its price tracking tools. The latest version—also rolling out across the US—gives users more granular control. Now, they can set alerts not just for a general product but for a specific size and colour combination. This means you’ll no longer be notified about discounts on items that don’t match your preferences. The enhancement is designed to cut down the noise and make price tracking more relevant and tailored to each shopper.

From trying on clothes with a tap to setting hyper-specific price alerts, Google is turning passive browsing into an immersive, intelligent, and highly personalised shopping journey.
