US President Donald Trump recently revealed that Meta, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is now planning to invest an eye-watering $50 billion to build a colossal AI data centre in Louisiana—far surpassing the previously announced figure of over $10 billion.
Hyperion: A Data Facility the Size of Manhattan
During a recent Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump expressed astonishment at the project's size and cost. He displayed a graphic—allegedly provided by Zuckerberg—superimposing the planned “Hyperion” centre over Manhattan, vividly illustrating its scale.

Financing the Future
To fund this expansive initiative, Meta is reportedly collaborating with major investment players like PIMCO and Blue Owl Capital, aiming to secure approximately $29 billion in financing. The company has reorganised its AI operations under this banner, underscoring its ambition to achieve industry-leading compute capability per researcher.
