In a landmark move, OpenAI has launched its first-ever international education platform—OpenAI Academy India, in partnership with the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The newly launched academy is designed to provide AI skills training on a national scale. It aims to serve a wide audience, including students, software developers, educators, civil servants, non-profit leaders, and entrepreneurs from small and medium-sized businesses.

Strategic Partnership Through MoU

A formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between OpenAI and IndiaAI to outline key areas of cooperation. The academy will support the FutureSkills pillar of the IndiaAI Mission by delivering training both online and offline in English and Hindi. Plans are also in place to expand this offering to more regional languages in the future.

These integrations aim to democratise AI education and make it easily accessible to professionals across different levels.

Hands-on Learning & Startup Boost

The academy is not limited to digital learning. OpenAI will also host webinars and in-person workshops across six Indian cities. In a further boost to India’s startup ecosystem, the company will provide up to $100,000 in API credits to 50 startups or fellows selected through the IndiaAI Mission. Expanding its reach further, OpenAI plans to organise hackathons in seven Indian states, targeting participation from 25,000 students. Winners of these hackathons will get the chance to attend OpenAI’s prestigious international DevDay. Additionally, OpenAI has committed to training one million teachers across the country in using generative AI tools effectively in classrooms and educational settings.
