Dish TV, one of India’s largest direct-to-home operators, has launched its ‘VZY SmartTV’ series. The move comes after more than two decades in broadcasting and marks a shift from being a pure-play DTH provider to a broader entertainment technology company.

Integrated TV and Streaming

The VZY series integrates linear television and streaming in a single device. Select models feature in-built set-top boxes, removing the need for external hardware. All models run on Google TV 5, based on Android 14, with support for major apps including Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube.

VZY SmartTV Product Range and Features

The lineup spans from 32-inch HD displays to 55-inch 4K UHD QLED models. Depending on the variant, the televisions offer up to 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. Features include Dolby Vision, HDR10, up to 350 nits brightness, Dolby Audio, and on higher models, Dolby Atmos. The devices also support Chromecast, Apple AirPlay, and voice-enabled remotes.

VZY SmartTV Pricing and Availability

The VZY Smart TVs are priced between ₹12,000 and ₹45,000. They will be available across leading retail outlets and online platforms nationwide. Initial manufacturing is outsourced to a third party, though Dish TV has hinted at developing its own smart TV operating system in the future.

Revenue Diversification Strategy

Dish TV expects non-DTH businesses to contribute 25% of its revenue within 18–24 months, up from the current 10%. The company reported ₹1,567.6 crore in revenue for FY25, down from ₹1,856.5 crore in FY24, largely due to falling Pay TV subscriptions. The push into smart TVs is part of a broader plan to offset this decline.

Competitive Edge

According to CEO Manoj Dobhal, the VZY range offers a “plug-and-play” model that brings linear TV and OTT content together. Unlike conventional TV purchases, users will not need separate set-top boxes or additional OTT subscriptions to start streaming. Dish TV is positioning this integration as its competitive advantage in a crowded market with over 20 players.

The company sees the VZY launch as a foundation for a wider content ecosystem. Alongside its OTT platform Watcho and quick-commerce venture Shopzop, Dish TV is positioning itself not just as a satellite broadcaster but as a content and device provider. Early consumer response has been encouraging, and the company plans to expand the VZY lineup in the coming months.
