Apple has handed over its service and repair responsibilities for iPhones and MacBooks in India to the Tata Group in a strategic move to strengthen its service ecosystem in one of its fastest-growing markets. This significant partnership is part of Apple’s broader plan to scale operations in the country as consumer demand for its devices reaches new heights. Beyond repair services, the Tata Group is also set to play a deeper role in Apple’s manufacturing ambitions. Reports suggest that Tata will not only oversee after-sales service but also manufacture iPhones in India—a key development as Apple diversifies its supply chain outside of China due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.

India’s Rising Importance in Apple’s Global Strategy

Over recent years, India has emerged as a critical alternative for Apple’s manufacturing needs. With favourable government policies and an expanding tech workforce, the country is increasingly seen as a stable and scalable production base. Tata has already established three manufacturing facilities in the Southern part of India, which produce and export iPhones and iPads to both domestic and international markets.

Awaiting Approval

Tata Group is preparing to begin offering repair services directly from the iPhone assembly unit in Karnataka. However, operations are currently awaiting final clearance from ICT Service Management—the Indian division of Wistron, a Taiwan-based Apple supplier. Once approved, this facility is expected to handle both repairs and sales, contributing further to Apple’s growing footprint in the Indian market.
