Apple’s highly anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is returning from June 9 to 13, 2025. According to recent reports, the company is preparing to unveil one of its most comprehensive software redesigns in years. At the centre of this transformation is a new design initiative, internally known as Solarium, which could redefine how users interact with all major Apple platforms.

Solarium: A Unified Apple Experience

As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is likely to introduce an all-new user interface (UI) across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and other platforms. This redesign, named "Solarium", aims to deliver a consistent visual experience that ties together Apple’s ecosystem more seamlessly than ever. The aesthetic inspiration behind Solarium reportedly comes from Apple’s VisionOS—the software powering its Vision Pro headset. Expect smoother, more modern visuals, translucent glass effects, floating UI layers, and curvier, “squircle”-style icons. It’s a design that leans into lightness and depth, promising a more immersive and cohesive user journey.

This redesign isn’t stopping with the iPhone or Mac. Apple is expected to extend these updates to tvOS and watchOS, bringing visual consistency to Apple TVs and Watches as well. Even VisionOS itself may receive refinements to align more closely with this overarching design approach.

Solarium: What’s in a Name?

The name “Solarium” is believed to reference sunlit rooms surrounded by glass—an apt metaphor for Apple’s new UI direction. The shift hints at a lighter, more transparent interface, continuing Apple’s long-standing emphasis on minimalism and clarity. Although Apple has yet to confirm these changes publicly, various leaks and insider reports point to Solarium as one of the three core themes of WWDC 2025. The other two include a major push into Apple Intelligence (AI) features and significant productivity upgrades in iPadOS 19, especially around multitasking.
