India’s large-scale electronics manufacturing sector has received Rs 19,090.98 crore in incentives under the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme up to June 2026, the highest payout among sectors covered by the programme, according to data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

The sector has also attracted Rs 20,580.20 crore in investment under the scheme. The latest figures come as India’s smartphone exports continue to expand.

Exports rose to about $30 billion in 2025-26 from $5.5 billion in 2021-22. India has emerged as the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturer, while smartphones are now among the country’s top exported commodities.

Electronics Gets Biggest PLI Payout

The large-scale electronics manufacturing (LSEM) scheme was introduced in 2020 to increase domestic mobile phone manufacturing. The government approved 32 companies as beneficiaries.

The scheme was initially planned for five years, from 2020 to 2025. The government later extended its tenure by one year to 2025-26.

Across the 14 PLI schemes launched in 2020, the government had disbursed Rs 36,754 crore to beneficiary companies by June 30, 2026, DPIIT data showed. The schemes have a combined approved outlay of Rs 1.91 lakh crore and cover sectors including electronics and pharmaceuticals.

Under the programme, eligible companies receive fiscal incentives based on incremental sales over a specified base year.

PLI scheme targets manufacturing and exports

The government’s PLI programme was designed to strengthen manufacturing capacity, attract investment, promote exports, generate employment and reduce dependence on imports.

The electronics sector has recorded the largest incentive payout among all the sectors covered under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

Pharmaceutical firms received Rs 6,662 crore in incentives up to June 2026. Beneficiary firms in food products received Rs 3,271.44 crore, while the automobile & auto components sector received Rs 3,174.15 crore, according to DPIIT data.

Together, Rs 19,090.98 crore in electronics incentives, Rs 20,580.20 crore in investment, and the rise in smartphone exports to about $30 billion capture the scale of India’s mobile manufacturing push under the PLI framework.
