Tata & BEL Join Forces—Is India Ready to Make Its Own Chips?
Tata Electronics and BEL join hands under a landmark MoU to drive indigenous development in India’s semiconductor and advanced electronics sector.

Tata Electronics and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) formalised an MoU in a joint venture to co-develop end-to-end solutions across semiconductor fabrication (Fab), outsourced assembly and testing (OSAT), and circuit design services. The pact was signed by BEL’s Chairman & MD, Manoj Jain, and Tata Electronics’ CEO & MD, Dr Randhir Thakur. The objective is to design and produce microcontrollers (MCUs), systems-on-chip (SoCs), monolithic microwave ICs (MMICs) and other processor families.

Best Practices Through Collaboration

The alliance aims to optimise BEL’s product manufacturing by leveraging shared technical know-how, operational best practices, and advanced manufacturing resources. According to BEL, this collaboration represents a strategic step toward strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem—a critical national priority. This pact between Tata Electronics and BEL marks more than just another MoU—it signals a pivotal shift in India’s ambition to reclaim its place in the global semiconductor landscape.
