The Telangana government has announced the establishment of a Green Skills and Applied AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Hyderabad, a new initiative aimed at preparing young professionals for careers that combine artificial intelligence with sustainable manufacturing. The Centre, being developed in partnership with Microsoft, 1M1B Foundation and MeitY Startup Hub, is expected to become operational by August 2026.
Initiative Behind this project
The initiative is designed to strengthen Telangana’s position as one of India’s leading life sciences and pharmaceutical hubs while creating a skilled workforce for the emerging green economy. It aligns with the state’s Next-Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026–30 and complements the government’s ambitious Green Pharma City project, which seeks to build one of the world’s largest integrated pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystems based on sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.

The vision and implementation roadmap for the Centre was presented during a meeting at the Telangana Secretariat chaired by IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu. Senior representatives from Microsoft India Development Centre, 1M1B Foundation, MeitY Startup Hub and state government departments participated in the discussions, including Rajiv Kumar, Manju Dhasmana, Manav Subodh and other officials.
According to the state government, the Centre will focus on developing industry-ready talent capable of applying artificial intelligence to pharmaceutical manufacturing, renewable energy, sustainable industrial processes and environmental management. As AI increasingly transforms manufacturing and industrial operations, the initiative aims to bridge the growing skills gap by offering practical, application-focused training rather than purely academic learning.
Telangana’s future-ready workforce
Sridhar Babu said the Centre reflects Telangana’s commitment to building a future-ready workforce that can support the rapid growth of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life sciences industries. He noted that combining AI with green manufacturing skills will help improve industrial competitiveness while creating new employment opportunities for the state’s youth.

Rajiv Kumar, Microsoft India Development Centre, said AI is rapidly becoming the foundation for sustainable industries. He explained that integrating applied AI with green skills can improve operational efficiency, optimise manufacturing processes, reduce waste and support environmentally responsible pharmaceutical production. According to Kumar, the Centre will play a key role in building a strong talent ecosystem capable of driving AI-powered innovation across the Green Pharma sector.
The Hyderabad Facility
The Hyderabad facility will be one of five Centres of Excellence planned across India under a joint initiative of Microsoft, 1M1B Foundation and MeitY Startup Hub. Together, these centres aim to engage 100,000 young people by 2030, providing training in applied AI and green skills while encouraging employment, innovation and entrepreneurship in future-ready sectors.
The announcement also reflects Telangana’s broader push to become a global life sciences and deep technology destination. The state is already home to Hyderabad’s Genome Valley, one of Asia’s largest life sciences clusters, and contributes significantly to India’s pharmaceutical exports.
