India’s UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transaction volumes in July 2026 rose 22% year-on-year to a record 23.66 billion.
As per the data shared by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the total value of payments touched an all-time high of ₹29.88 lakh crore.
The latest figures underline the growing role of UPI in everyday payments across consumers, businesses and merchants.

UPI Sets Fresh Monthly Records
NPCI data reflects that UPI processed 23.66 billion transactions during July. The figure has gone up from 19.47 billion in the same month last year, marking an annual increase of around 22%.
Compared with June, transaction volumes also climbed by about 4%, recovering from the slight moderation seen a month earlier.
The value of transactions reached ₹29.88 lakh crore, up 19% year-on-year from ₹25.08 lakh crore in July last year. On a monthly basis, transaction value increased from ₹28.92 lakh crore in June, narrowly missing the all-time peak recorded in May.

Daily Payment Activity Stands Out
On average, Indians carried out nearly 763 million UPI transactions every day in July 2026.
The data highlights how the payment platform is deeply woven into daily life. From grocery shopping to utility bills to transport fares & other small merchant payments, UPI dominates India’s retail digital payment ecosystem.
Industry experts suggested that the sustained growth reflects rising consumer confidence, wider merchant acceptance & increasing smartphone penetration. Altogether, it is becoming a driving force of the cashless payments ecosystem in Indian urban and rural markets.
