In a landmark move for India’s artificial intelligence landscape, the Telangana government  is all set to unveil India's first state-led digital public infrastructure (DPI) for AI in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The platform, known as Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX), has been developed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and is designed to facilitate cross-domain AI solutions through seamless collaboration between the state, startups, academic institutions, and industry players.

According to reports by PTI, JICA’s Digital Transformation Lab (DXLab) is offering strategic and technical assistance to the project. TGDeX will serve as a collaborative playground for AI developers, offering access to datasets and tools critical for innovation and deployment.

Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy has called on all stakeholders across the AI ecosystem to participate in this pioneering initiative, emphasising its potential to shape the future of AI development in India.

The platform will leverage the Telangana government’s existing repository of public datasets along with contributions from the state’s robust AI ecosystem. Supporting the initiative are key institutions such as the Telangana AI Mission, tech incubator T-Hub, AI CoE MATH at T-Hub, IIT Hyderabad, and the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH). Together, they aim to curate over 2,000 AI-ready datasets within the next five years—a significant step toward making Telangana a national hub for AI research and application.

Andhra Pradesh Eyes Quantum Future

Interestingly, just as Telangana prepares to launch its AI infrastructure, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh is charting its own tech ambitions. The state's Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu has announced that the Amaravati Quantum Valley—a massive quantum innovation zone—will be functional by January 2026. The initiative, expected to create 1 lakh jobs, will begin by deploying 100 real-world use cases across governance, healthcare, and industry.
