VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, has appointed Tapan Ghosh- currently Vice President and Head of Sales at Hyundai India, as CEO of its Indian operations. Ghosh will officially assume the role on October 16. This leadership change comes shortly after VinFast launched its two new electric SUVs, VF6 and VF7, in India. These models will compete in the ₹16‐24 lakh price bracket against established players like Tata Motors and Mahindra.
Investment & Manufacturing Plans
VinFast has committed nearly US$2 billion to its India operations. The company has already established an assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, with an initial annual production target of 50,000 vehicles, planning to scale up in the future.

Ghosh’s Experience
Ghosh has a long career in the Indian automotive industry. He began in 1995 with Hindustan Motors and has since held roles at Honda Cars, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Motors, and Hyundai (since 2013). By appointing a seasoned Indian executive, VinFast aims to strengthen its local leadership and build greater consumer trust. This is seen as part of its strategy to differentiate itself in the Indian EV market, which is becoming more competitive.
