Maharashtra launches AI Policy 2026 aiming to create 1.5 million jobs by 2031, boost startups, and build strong AI infrastructure to attract global investments.

Maharashtra has declared its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2026. The policy highlights the strategy to create 15 lakh jobs and position the state as a leading AI hub by 2031.

The policy focuses on equipping the digital infrastructure, supporting startups and attracting n global investments.

Focus on Jobs, Startups and AI Ecosystem Growth

The policy sets a target of generating 1.5 million jobs through AI-led growth over the next five years. It proposes incentives for startups, research institutions and private players working in AI and emerging technologies.

The state plans to begin with AI innovation hubs and incubation centres to support early-stage ventures. Funding support, tax incentives and access to government datasets are expected to be major parts of the startup push.

“The policy will also encourage collaboration between industry and academia to build a skilled workforce. Training programmes and partnerships with educational institutions are expected to play a central role in bridging the talent gap.”

Infrastructure Push and Investment Roadmap

The policy mainly covers the development of AI infrastructure, including data centres, computing facilities and innovation clusters. The government intends to attract both domestic and global investments into the state’s AI ecosystem.

The policy outlines plans to deploy AI solutions across sectors such as governance, healthcare, agriculture and urban development. Authorities further said the policy will improve service delivery and operational impact.

Maharashtra is expected to introduce regulatory support and streamlined approvals to ease business operations for AI companies. The aim is to position the state as a preferred destination for AI-led firms.
