An AI startup idea developed by Chandigarh University (CU) alumnus Abubakar Akhlaq has turned into a technology business with more than Rs 50 lakh in sales in less than a year of operations.

Founded in July 2025, Fovea Infotech provides software, artificial intelligence (AI) automation, branding and digital growth services to businesses across sectors.

From Campus Idea to Technology Business

Akhlaq, who studied Computer Science Engineering at Chandigarh University, conceived Fovea Infotech in 2022 after interacting with startups and local businesses.

He said he found many companies relying on outdated processes, disconnected systems and multiple vendors for technology and digital services.

Fovea Infotech aims to bring these functions under one roof. Its services include custom software and mobile app development, AI automation and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)-based solutions, customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, software-as-a-service (SaaS) products, websites, branding, performance marketing, social media management and search engine optimisation (SEO).

The company works with startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as businesses in hospitality, healthcare, education, real estate, retail and manufacturing. Its client base also includes professional services firms and business-to-business technology vendors.

Fovea Infotech Plans International Expansion

Akhlaq said the company plans to develop its own SaaS platforms and expand its AI and automation products. It is also targeting clients in the Middle East, Europe and North America, alongside plans for technology partnerships, hiring young technology professionals and investment in AI research and innovation.

Chandigarh University said its students have created more than 250 startups since the university’s establishment in 2012. Its Technology Business Incubator is mobilising Rs 5 crore to support the university’s startup ecosystem through partnerships with venture capital investors and other stakeholders.

The university said its innovation-focused environment, industry-linked curriculum, practical projects and entrepreneurial programmes helped Akhlaq turn his idea into a business.

Fovea Infotech’s early revenue traction highlights a broader shift in India’s startup ecosystem, where student-led ventures are increasingly moving beyond prototypes to paid business solutions. The next test will be whether it can turn that initial momentum into scalable SaaS and AI products for global markets.
