Google, recently at the I/O 2025 developer conference, unveiled the way Android XR is all set to transform the way users interact with smart glasses. These smart glasses will be equipped with cameras, speakers, and microphones to enable the glasses to see and listen to what you see and hear, breaking the boundaries of real and virtual.

Breaking the long-standing tradition where AR/VR was meant just for gaming, the new glasses come with various real-life use cases, including navigation, translation, etc. The glasses also come with an optional in-lens display to show you the vital information privately. Beyond visuals, the glasses come with built-in AI and complete controls to enable users to control their mobile phones or apps without even taking them out of their pockets.

What will users be able to do?

Android XR-powered smart glasses are designed for seamless real-world use, enabling functions such as messaging, scheduling appointments, navigating with turn-by-turn directions, capturing photos, and more. A standout feature is live translation during conversations, offering real-time subtitles that can bridge language barriers, highlighting the potential of these glasses to transform communication across global teams and customer interactions.

This is all set to redefine the way people interact with smart glasses and also make them more desirable among users.

Deep AI Integration

As Google integrates Gemini into these devices, users are all set to gain an on-device assistant that sees what they see and responds contextually the moment interaction begins. This hands-free support enables greater focus and engagement, whether in physical environments or immersive virtual settings.

With AI built in, the glasses will enable users to bring out transformative use cases. This will empower the power of innovation and creativity for the developers too, to bring out something phenomenal and exceptional.

Collabs to Bring It to Life

To bring this to life, Google has partnered with innovative eyewear brands, starting with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, to create stylish glasses with Android XR. And in the future, it looks forward to working with more partners, like Kering Eyewear, to bring even more options to users.
