As per a report by Bloomberg, Samsung, the South Korean mobile phone giant, and Perplexity AI, the US-based AI Startup, are in talks to potentially forge a collaboration and empower Samsung’s upcoming series of Galaxy S26 phones. This will enable the smartphone company to position the AI startup at the forefront of Samsung’s devices. 

Potential innovations that can be witnessed in the future as a part of the collab include preloading Perplexity’s app and assistant on Samsung’s upcoming devices. Other than this, the industry will potentially witness an integration of Perplexity into Samsung’s web browser, the report by Bloomberg further suggests. Finally, the industry might also witness Bixby’s new face formed post the integration of Perplexity AI.  

Funding Impetus for Startup

As per the people close to the matter, Samsung is also reportedly poised to become a major investor in Perplexity's upcoming funding round. The AI startup is in advanced talks to raise $500 million at a valuation of $14 billion, Bloomberg News reports.

2nd Tie Up in the Line

Not long ago, the startup announced its collaboration with Motorola, the smartphone company. , for AI integration. Beginning with Motorola’s next-generation smartphones, Perplexity is set to be embedded across millions of devices globally, offering seamless access to its answer engine and AI assistant. With this integration, Perplexity evolves beyond simple information retrieval, enabling users to send emails, set intelligent reminders, play media, request rides, and make restaurant reservations.

Declining Dependence on Google

The broad partnership could help Samsung lessen its dependence on Alphabet Inc.’s Google and open the door to collaborations with a wider range of AI developers, mirroring Apple Inc.’s multi-partner approach to AI across its devices and services. For Perplexity, this would represent its most significant mobile partnership to date.

AI-Powered OS on the Cards 

The industry may see far more than just deeper integration from this collaboration between the two companies. According to sources, Samsung and Perplexity are also exploring to development of an AI-powered operating system and an AI agent app that can leverage capabilities from Perplexity as well as other AI assistants.
