Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce a dramatic design upgrade to its software interface at the upcoming WWDC 2025. According to industry insider Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the company could unveil a sleek new visual layer called ‘Liquid Glass’ that will revamp the look and feel of iOS and macOS.

What is ‘Liquid Glass’?

The 'Liquid Glass' interface is expected to offer a more fluid, translucent, and immersive experience across Apple’s ecosystem. Gurman describes it as aiming to be "visually richer", featuring more glass-like elements, transparency, and gloss that give off a "frosted" appearance. The design will likely create an illusion of depth and smoothness, intended to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Apple’s user interface.

Early Stages

Although the new UI is still under development and not finalised, its potential inclusion in iOS 18 and macOS 15 would mark one of the most significant visual overhauls in recent years. Gurman cautions that Apple is still refining the concept, and whether or not it makes it to the final release will depend on internal decisions and feedback. Design changes like the 'Liquid Glass' interface often play a vital role in shaping how users perceive software updates.

Even if Apple introduces limited AI features initially, a refined and futuristic UI can help deliver a sense of progress and polish to the overall experience.
