Assam Just Made Electronics a Priority—And It’s a Rs 25,000 Cr Statement
Assam embarks on a transformative journey with a Rs 25,000 crore investment to revolutionise electronics manufacturing in the state.

Assam government has announced a comprehensive Rs 25,000 crore scheme aimed at incentivising electronics manufacturing within the state in a significant move to bolster its industrial landscape. Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that a substantial portion of this funding is dedicated to encouraging component manufacturers, signalling the state's commitment to developing a robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Strategic Investment 

The newly unveiled scheme is designed to attract investments in key areas such as display modules, printed circuit board assemblies, and lithium cell enclosures. By focusing on these critical components, Assam aims to position itself as a competitive hub for electronics production in India. This initiative also aligns with the broader national objectives of enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities and reducing reliance on electronic imports. With the global electronics market experiencing rapid growth, Assam's proactive approach seeks to capitalise on emerging opportunities and establish the state as a significant player in the industry.

Leveraging Geographical Advantages 

Assam's strategic location, bordering Bhutan and Bangladesh, offers unique advantages for trade and connectivity. Chief Minister Sarma emphasised that the state's position is central to India's Act East Policy, enhancing its appeal as an investment destination. The state government is further actively promoting Assam's robust infrastructure and investor-friendly policies to attract both national and international stakeholders.

Advancing Semiconductor Manufacturing Capabilities

A notable highlight of Assam's industrial advancement is the progress of the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad. Projected to produce 48 million chips per day, this facility is poised to surpass similar projects in other regions, including the Semiconductor Fabrication Facility in Gujarat.The development of this semiconductor unit not only signifies technological progress but also promises substantial employment opportunities, contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region.
