Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially introduced its 4G services in Delhi. The rollout, however, comes in the form of a soft launch, where the company is offering high-speed data and voice services on BSNL SIM cards through a partner’s infrastructure. Operated under a “4G-as-a-service” model, the setup ensures last-mile radio coverage on supported handsets while BSNL continues building its indigenous 4G network across India.

What Customers Can Expect

Announcing the development, BSNL CMD A. Robert J. Ravi said, “From today, new users in Delhi can experience BSNL 4G for both calls and fast data. We're ensuring immediate coverage through this partnership while continuing to deploy our own nationwide 4G infrastructure.” Customers can purchase new SIM cards and complete eKYC verification at BSNL and MTNL service centres, as well as at authorised retailers across the capital.

Investment and Expansion Plans

BSNL is making a significant push into the 4G market with an investment of around Rs. 25,000 crore. The project has already seen the installation of one lakh mobile towers to enhance connectivity. Looking ahead, the telecom operator has also earmarked nearly Rs. 47,000 crore to further strengthen and expand its network infrastructure nationwide, positioning itself as a competitive player against private telecom operators.

Focus on Security

Alongside the 4G launch, BSNL has begun a nationwide rollout of its anti-spam and anti-smishing protection service. This feature is designed to safeguard users against deceptive SMS messages containing malicious links — a growing concern in India’s mobile ecosystem.
