Google has announced a major upgrade to Gemini Live, its real-time AI voice chatbot, bringing it closer to being a true personal assistant. The update introduces visual guidance, broader app integration, and enhanced voice models designed to make conversations sound more natural. The features will make their debut on the upcoming Google Pixel 10 series before reaching other devices.

Visual Guidance Arrives on Pixel 10 First

The highlight of the update is visual guidance, which allows Gemini Live to identify and highlight specific objects on the screen during a conversation. When users enable the video feed, the AI can place a white-bordered rectangle around the object being discussed, making it easier to distinguish between multiple items in crowded visuals or similar-looking objects. Google first teased this feature at its I/O 2024 event, and it is now set to launch alongside the Pixel 10 series on August 28, the same day the smartphones hit the market. Other Android devices will see the feature roll out later that week, with iOS support arriving after.

Gemini Live Expands Into Core Google Apps

Until now, Gemini Live only worked with Google Calendar, Keep, and Tasks. With the latest update, Google is extending support to key first-party apps like Phone, Messages, and Clock. This means users will soon be able to ask Gemini Live to make calls, send texts, or even set alarms without pausing their ongoing conversation. The deeper integration signals Google’s push to make Gemini Live a true hands-free assistant embedded across the phone’s core functions.

More Human Voices With Smarter Speech Models

Another significant improvement is coming to Gemini Live’s speech models. Google says it is refining intonation, rhythm, and pitch to make the chatbot’s voice sound more expressive and natural. Beyond that, Gemini Live will adapt its tone to match the topic of conversation, adjust its speaking speed, and even adopt character accents while narrating stories. This upgrade is expected to make interactions feel less robotic and more human-like.

What Comes Next

While Google has not provided a firm timeline for when all users will receive the app integration and advanced voice updates, the Pixel 10 series will be the first to showcase these capabilities. With this move, Google is signalling a clear evolution of Gemini Live—transforming it from a simple chatbot into a highly interactive, versatile assistant designed to blend seamlessly into everyday digital life.
