In the 1st multilateral meeting of the communications ministers of BRICS in Brasilia, India reiterates its commitment to building an enduring, future-ready partnership with all BRICS nations, particularly in connectivity, space sustainability, and digital ecosystem domains. Mr. Chadra Sekhkar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications, voices India’s support for the declaration on "Universal and Meaningful Connectivity, Space Sustainability, Environmental Responsibility, and Comprehensive Digital Ecosystem Development."

India’s Stride in Digital Connectivity

The MoS highlights India’s approach and vision of digital governance. He refers to it as a combination of “civilizational wisdom and cutting-edge innovation.” Further, he says that India’s vision of digital expansion aims to be transformational and not transactional, guided by inclusion, equity, and technological empowerment for all. Beyond this, India holds the record for the fastest expansion of the 5G network across the nation, deploying over 4.7 lakh 5G base stations in just over two years.

Safeguarding Orbital Resources

The MoS urged the BRICS committee to lead with oversight. He proposed that the committee develop a structured collaboration aimed at safeguarding orbital equity and ensuring resilience in space infrastructure. “Let space remain a shared frontier—driven by cooperation, not competition,” he adds.
