Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio is making waves with its fully in-house developed 5G technology stack, now drawing the attention of global telecom operators and tech analysts alike. This milestone reinforces India’s evolving position—not just as a consumer of high-end tech, but as a serious global innovator in critical infrastructure.

Building for Bharat, Scaling for the World

What distinguishes Jio is that it has end-to-end control of its 5G ecosystem—ranging from core and RAN to cloud-native platforms and AI-powered OSS (Operational Support Systems) and BSS (Business Support Systems) . Already scaled and deployed in India, this stack supports more than 20 million broadband homes and dominates 82% of India's 5G Fixed Wireless Access(FWA)  market.

The design is specifically designed to be replicable, affordable, and modular, particularly for populous countries with difficult geographies. The game-changer? UBR (unlicensed band radio)—Jio's fixed wireless access technology that provides high-speed broadband through a single 5G tower that serves 50–60% of homes in a neighborhood.

Taking India's Telecom Playbook Global

With leading telcos in Asia, Africa, and Europe rumoured to be looking at Jio's model, the export market potential here is huge. It is perceived as a replacement for expensive legacy infrastructure, particularly in areas that are looking for digital growth without global vendor lock-in.

Jio's production is also very Indian. Hardware is made locally through its JV with Sanmina, and the software layer is AI-native and customizable—providing what global carriers are increasingly looking for: performance, sovereignty, and flexibility.

Strategic Signal: India as a Deep-Tech Exporter

The stack aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission and positions Reliance as a deep-tech platform provider, not just a telco. With 213 million 5G users and counting, and a growing enterprise portfolio, Jio is now poised to license or deploy its tech abroad, unlocking a new revenue stream and strengthening India’s digital diplomacy.
