Microsoft recently revealed its very first Xbox-branded handheld gaming devices, aiming to make its extensive gaming library accessible anytime, anywhere. Xbox President Sarah Bond introduced the “Xbox Ally” during a digital event highlighting upcoming game titles for the platform. “The Xbox Ally is essentially an Xbox you can hold in your hands, combining the strength of the Xbox ecosystem with the flexibility of Windows,” Bond said.

Partnership with ASUS

The new handheld consoles, branded as “ROG Xbox Ally”, are the result of a collaboration between Microsoft and Taiwanese tech giant ASUS. Two models of the device are set to hit the market by the end-of-year holiday season.

Microsoft further stated that gamers will be able to play titles from across their entire library on the Xbox Ally. This includes games from Windows PC platforms such as Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, GOG (Good Old Games), and Ubisoft Connect. It’s a cross-platform experience designed for seamless mobility.

Console Design, Handheld Functionality

Visually, both Xbox handheld models resemble traditional Xbox controllers, featuring similar buttons, toggles, and grips. However, they have been elongated to incorporate built-in centre screens, merging console familiarity with portable practicality.
