Zoho Partners with Indian Army to Advance Indigenous Digital Capabilities Under JAI Mission

Zoho and the Indian Army have signed an MoU under the JAI Mission to advance indigenous digital capabilities, AI adoption, and defence innovation.

Homegrown software company Zoho Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army to support the force’s digital transformation and strengthen indigenous technology capabilities under the Jointness, Atmanirbharta and Innovation (JAI) mission.

The agreement was signed by Lieutenant General Harsh Chibber, Director General Information Systems (DGIS) and Rajendran Dandapani, Director of Engineering at Zoho Corporation. The signing ceremony was attended by General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu.

The partnership aims to accelerate the Army’s adoption of advanced digital technologies while promoting the development of secure, scalable, and locally built solutions. It is expected to support application-focused research and development, enhance digital skill development and strengthen the Army’s technology ecosystem.

As modern warfare increasingly relies on data, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, the Indian Army has been investing heavily in next-generation technological capabilities. The collaboration with Zoho is expected to contribute to these efforts by leveraging indigenous software expertise.

Indian Army’s Push for Digital Transformation

In its announcement, the Indian Army said the collaboration will help accelerate its transition into a “future-ready and digitally empowered force.” The initiative also aligns with the government’s broader objective of reducing dependence on imported technologies and promoting self-reliance in critical strategic sectors.

By working closely with one of India’s leading software companies, the Army aims to develop technology solutions tailored to its operational and administrative requirements while strengthening domestic innovation.

Supporting the JAI Mission

The partnership is anchored in the JAI mission, a strategic framework championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to modernise India’s defence ecosystem through three key pillars: Jointness, Atmanirbharta and Innovation.

Jointness focuses on improving coordination and operational integration among the Army, Navy, Air Force, paramilitary forces, and other government agencies. Atmanirbharta aims to boost indigenous defence manufacturing and technology development, reducing reliance on foreign systems and suppliers.

Innovation encourages the rapid adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, drones, robotics, cybersecurity and advanced digital platforms. The Indian Army believes that collaborations with domestic technology leaders such as Zoho will play a key role in achieving these objectives and building a more technologically resilient defence force for the future.
