India and Japan are set to push their technology partnership into a new phase as Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi holds talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, critical minerals and economic security are expected to dominate the discussions, reflecting the growing importance of trusted technology supply chains amid rising geopolitical tensions.

The visit will focus on expanding India-Japan cooperation through both government and private-sector participation, including the Japan-India Economic Forum, which will feature over 150 members of Japan’s business community.

The meeting comes as both countries seek to reduce dependence on concentrated manufacturing hubs and strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors that will shape future economic growth.
