India’s telecom regulator has rolled out a redesigned version of its TRAI MyCall mobile application, allowing consumers to rate the quality of voice calls in real time and provide direct feedback that could help improve mobile network performance across the country.

The move comes as India continues expanding its 4G and 5G networks, with the regulator seeking more consumer-led data to assess service quality.

Consumers Can Now Share Real-Time Voice Call Feedback

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said the upgraded MyCall app has been built as a citizen-focused digital platform that enables mobile users to record their experience after a voice call.

Instead of relying only on technical network data, the application gathers feedback directly from consumers to identify areas where call quality falls short.

According to TRAI, the information collected will help telecom service providers (TSPs) pinpoint locations or situations where network performance needs improvement, allowing them to take corrective measures more effectively.

The regulator said the initiative aims to strengthen overall Quality of Service (quality of service) for mobile subscribers.

Crowdsourced Data to Support Better Network Quality

The MyCall application works by allowing users to rate individual voice calls and report issues experienced during conversations. The feedback is gathered anonymously and is intended to complement TRAI’s existing monitoring systems.

The regulator has increasingly focused on using digital tools that involve consumers directly in improving telecom services. Earlier this year, it also revamped its DND and MySpeed applications to simplify spam reporting and network performance testing. The updated MyCall app extends that strategy by concentrating specifically on voice call quality, an area that remains important even as data usage continues to grow.

Part of India’s Wider Telecom Quality Drive

TRAI is expecting broader public participation to generate richer datasets on real-world calling experiences. This will help it in monitoring service standards more accurately while enabling operators to address network gaps faster.

The regulator has positioned the revamped application as another step towards improving transparency, strengthening consumer participation and supporting better mobile connectivity as India’s telecom sector continues to evolve with nationwide 5G deployment.

The success of the revamped MyCall app will depend on user participation. If widely adopted, the platform could become an important source of real-world network insights, helping both TRAI and telecom operators improve voice call quality in areas where customers continue to face connectivity issues.
