AirTrunk Gets Green Signal for ₹2 Lakh Crore Data Centre Project in Maharashtra

AirTrunk has received land allotment approval for its ₹2 lakh crore Maharashtra data centre project, aiming to build a 3GW AI and cloud hub.

AirTrunk, the Australian data centre company, has taken a key step towards building its proposed ₹2 lakh crore data centre project in Maharashtra. The company has received a letter of intent for land allotment at the Raigad Pen Growth Centre, also known as Orange City.

3 GW Data Centre Planned in Raigad

The project will be developed in Raigad district, near Mumbai. It is expected to create a large 3-gigawatt (GW) data centre ecosystem, making it one of the biggest data centre projects in the region.

Investment Backed by Blackstone

AirTrunk, founded by Australian billionaire Robin Khuda and backed by US private firm Blackstone, plans to invest around ₹2 trillion (about $21 billion) in the project. According to the company, the facility will help meet the rising demand for artificial intelligence workloads, cloud computing services, and data localisation requirements in India.

Maharashtra Government Supports Project

The announcement was made by Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, after meeting Khuda. Fadnavis said the state government and AirTrunk exchanged a letter of intent for the land allotment, paving the way for the large-scale investment. Australia’s Consul-General Paul Murphy was also present during the meeting.
