Apple unveiled its biggest artificial intelligence (AI) push yet at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026. The electronic giant has introduced a rebuilt Siri, expanded Apple Intelligence features, major updates to iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate and new AI-powered tools across its ecosystem.
The announcements come as the iPhone maker aims to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving AI race.
Apple’s rivals, including Google, Microsoft and Samsung, have moved aggressively over the past year.
The event also marked the final WWDC keynote led by Apple Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook, who is set to hand over leadership to John Ternus on September 1, 2026.

Apple Rebuilds Siri Around AI
The biggest announcement from Apple’s annual developer conference was the introduction of Siri AI. It is a redesigned version of its voice assistant built on a new AI-focused architecture.
Apple said Siri AI has been developed through a collaboration with Google and leverages the Gemini family of AI models.
Here’s what new users can expect:
- The company claims that the new assistant is more conversational, understands personal context better and can work seamlessly across apps.
- Unlike previous versions, Siri AI will operate across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay and Vision Pro.
- Conversations can also sync through iCloud, allowing users to continue interactions across devices.
- Apple has further expanded Siri’s visual capabilities. The new assistant will understand on-screen content and break it down into contextual information. This will bring it closer to visual search tools that have gained popularity in recent years.
- Users will be able to customise Siri’s voice, speaking pace and accent, while text-based interactions will be supported across any field where typing is possible.
The rollout begins in English, with additional languages planned later. However, Apple confirmed Siri AI will not be available in the European Union and China at launch due to regulatory requirements.

Apple Intelligence: Expanding Across Core Apps
At WWDC 2026, Apple has also introduced a broader set of upgrades. Here is what you get on the Apple Intelligence platform:
- Apple Intelligence can now manage Safari tabs, update compromised passwords with a single tap, suggest replies in Messages and understand context across multiple applications.
- The AI system can identify action items from conversations, automatically create calendar events, and retrieve information from apps such as Mail and Messages during active phone calls.
- Several built-in apps are receiving deeper AI integration.
- In the Health app, Apple is adding support for tracking menopause and perimenopause.
- Messages and Phone will become more context-aware, while Safari, Photos and Home will gain additional AI-powered features.
- The Home app can now generate clearer security camera notifications and automatically combine footage from multiple cameras into a single event summary.
- For developers, Apple announced new application programming interfaces (APIs), enhanced AI model tools, image-generation capabilities and backend support for external AI models through a new Core AI framework.
Apple has yet again vouched for its privacy-first approach. The tech giant stated that AI requests are handled through on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.
Data sent to the cloud is solely used to complete a request and is not stored for training purposes.

AI Image Creation and Photo Editing Get Major Upgrade
Apple has also expanded the capabilities of Image Playground, its AI-powered image creation platform.
What this means:
- Users can now generate custom lock screens, contact posters, iMessage backgrounds and other visual content using simple prompts. The company assures that the personal photos used within the platform will not be accessible to AI models for training.
- The Photos app is receiving several notable upgrades as well.
- A new Reframe feature lets users reposition subjects within an image after it’s captured. At the same time, Expand can extend image boundaries or adjust aspect ratios using AI-generated content.
- Apple has also improved the Clean Up tool, enabling more accurate removal of unwanted objects from photographs.

iOS 27 Focuses on Speed, Performance and Customisation
Apple confirmed that iOS 27 will support all devices currently running iOS 26, including models dating back to the iPhone 11.
The company said apps will launch up to 30% faster, newly captured photos will appear more quickly in the Photos app, and AirDrop transfers could see significant speed improvements.
Another major visual change is the expansion of Liquid Glass. It is Apple’s new interface design language. Users will now have greater control over how prominently the visual style appears throughout the operating system.
Other additions include:
- Smarter switching between Wi-Fi and cellular networks
- Improved search infrastructure
- Support for Android and Windows users in iCloud Shared Albums
- Custom equaliser settings for AirPods
- Upgraded Flyover experiences within Maps
macOS Golden Gate Brings New Design and Smarter Search
Apple’s next desktop operating system, macOS Golden Gate, introduces a refreshed visual design with redesigned toolbars, colour-coded sidebars, updated app icons and rounded window corners.
Siri AI will also be integrated directly into Spotlight search, allowing users to ask questions, analyse files and continue searches in dedicated windows.
The company is further expanding parental controls with stricter approval systems and enhanced protections for Child accounts.

Witnessing History in the Making with Apple’s Strongest AI Play
WWDC 2026 highlights Apple’s most ambitious AI strategy to date. Rather than introducing standalone AI products, the company chose to embed AI across its software ecosystem. The company is positioning AI as a core feature across its devices ahead of a highly competitive product cycle in the global consumer technology market.
The success of Apple’s software strategy will ultimately be measured not by the number of AI features unveiled at WWDC 2026, but by how productively they drive user adoption, hardware upgrades and long-term growth across the company’s ecosystem.
