OpenAI has unveiled Frontier, a new enterprise platform designed to help companies build, deploy and manage artificial intelligence agents at scale. The service provides businesses with tools to oversee autonomous AI agents that perform real work within existing software systems.

What is ‘Frontier and how does it work?

Frontier is an enterprise-focused AI agent service that treats AI agents like digital workers. It provides tools for onboarding, shared business context, explicit permissions & governance and ongoing performance oversight. The platform is built to integrate with existing enterprise infrastructure without forcing wide-scale replatforming.

The platform provides each agent with an identity, explicit access controls and audit-ready procedures, enabling companies to operate in regulated environments. Frontier has mechanisms for evaluation and optimisation so agents improve through feedback and sustained use.

OpenAI positions Frontier as a solution to fragmentation seen in large enterprises, where disconnected systems and multiple siloed AI pilots slow down broader adoption.
