Rajasthan is stepping up its fight against Type 1 diabetes by expanding Mission Madhuhari. It is a state-wide programme that combines artificial intelligence (AI), digital health tools and free essential care to improve treatment and long-term monitoring of patients.
The initiative aims to strengthen early diagnosis, ensure uninterrupted access to insulin and bring specialised diabetes services closer to families across the state.

AI and digital tools strengthen diabetes care
The state government is scaling up the programme by introducing AI-based screening for diabetic retinopathy, a serious eye condition linked to diabetes.
The technology analyses retinal images to help doctors detect complications early, allowing patients to receive treatment before permanent vision damage occurs.
Pilot screenings have already been carried out in districts including Pali, Beawar, Karauli, Jalore and Deshnok in Bikaner.
Alongside AI screening, Mission Madhuhari uses digital tracking systems to monitor patients throughout their treatment journey. Health officials said the platform is designed to support regular follow-ups, improve disease management and reduce gaps in care. The programme also focuses on building the skills of healthcare workers managing Type 1 diabetes cases.

Free treatment and wider state coverage
Launched in November 2024, Mission Madhuhari has trained paediatric specialists and doctors from 70 district and sub-district hospitals. As of December 2025, more than 1,700 patients had been registered under the programme and provided with free insulin, glucometers and glucose test strips, according to the state’s Economic Review.
The government plans to expand the network of dedicated diabetes clinics to strengthen community-based care and long-term patient support.
The initiative further includes the development of a Type 1 Diabetes Centre of Excellence at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, reinforcing Rajasthan’s wider push towards AI-enabled healthcare and digital health services.
