Uttar Pradesh is stepping up its ambitions to become one of India’s biggest artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure destinations, with the state government setting a target of building 10 gigawatts (GW) of data centre capacity by 2030.
The plan forms part of a wider strategy to attract large-scale investments, support AI-driven businesses and strengthen India’s growing digital economy.
Senior state officials have outlined a roadmap during discussions on Uttar Pradesh’s digital infrastructure strategy.
The government has further highlighted its intention to position the state as a preferred location for AI-ready data centres, supported by reliable power, faster approvals and improved connectivity.

Uttar Pradesh Expands its AI and Data Centre Ambitions
The state is looking beyond conventional data storage facilities and is focusing on infrastructure that can support artificial intelligence, cloud computing and high-performance computing workloads.
Officials believe demand for AI services will continue to rise as businesses, government agencies and research organisations increasingly rely on advanced computing capacity.
According to the government, Uttar Pradesh has already attracted significant investor interest for data centre projects across the state. Proposed investments are expected to contribute towards the long-term target while creating employment in information technology, cloud services, networking and related sectors.

New Policy Aims to Attract Large Private Investments
The government is preparing a more investor-friendly data centre policy that places greater emphasis on AI-enabled facilities, green data centres, uninterrupted power supply, faster regulatory clearances and world-class digital infrastructure.
Officials say these measures are intended to make Uttar Pradesh more competitive against established data centre markets in India.
Alongside the new policy, the state is undertaking projects such as the proposed AI City near Lucknow & expanding digital infrastructure in the Noida and Yamuna Expressway regions.
These are emerging as key investment destinations for hyperscale data centres and AI computing facilities.
