In a significant stride towards bolstering India’s artificial intelligence capabilities, the government has shortlisted seven companies in the second round of its GPU procurement tender under the India AI Mission. The shortlisted entities include prominent names such as Yotta Data Services, E2E Networks, Jio Platforms, AWS, CtrlS Datacenters and Tata Communications. These companies are now poised to play a pivotal role in establishing the nation’s AI infrastructure.
Empowering Startups and Researchers
To democratise access to advanced computing resources, the government has introduced a viability gap funding model. This initiative aims to subsidise up to 50 per cent of compute costs for startups and researchers, thereby removing financial barriers and fostering innovation in the AI sector.
Infrastructure and Implementation Timeline
As part of the empanelment requirements, the selected companies are mandated to deploy a minimum of 1,000 AI compute units within six months of signing the agreement. This accelerated timeline underscores the urgency of building robust AI infrastructure to position India as a global leader in AI innovation.
A Collaborative Effort Towards AI Excellence
The IndiaAI Mission represents a collaborative effort between the government and the private sector to establish a scalable AI computing infrastructure. By facilitating affordable access to advanced compute resources, the mission is expected to accelerate AI research and innovation, ultimately strengthening India’s position in the global AI landscape.
