WhatsApp has launched a new Bill Payments feature in India, allowing users to find, manage and pay household and utility bills directly within the messaging app. The new service uses the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network to process bill payments. It gives users access to 22,722 billers across 30 categories, covering payments such as electricity, water, gas, FASTag, insurance, credit cards and loan repayments.

The feature is being rolled out in phases and will reach Android and iOS users across India over the coming weeks.
How to pay bills on WhatsApp
Users can access the new service by opening WhatsApp and tapping the ₹ icon at the top of the home screen. From there, they can choose the relevant bill category and select their biller. After entering and confirming their account details, WhatsApp will fetch the outstanding bill amount. Users can then review the details and complete the payment without leaving the app. WhatsApp supports UPI, debit cards and credit cards for bill payments.
WhatsApp adds household bill management
The new feature goes beyond one-time payments. WhatsApp has introduced a household bills summary that can display bills from billers a user has previously paid through the platform. These billers appear on the Payments Home screen, allowing users to access them with a single tap.

Users can also manage multiple accounts under the same biller. This could be useful for people who need to track separate electricity, water or other utility accounts for their home, office or family members.
