Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2026–27 live in Parliament, announced that the government will continue its strong focus on infrastructure development in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, aiming to drive balanced and inclusive economic growth across India.
As part of the live budget announcements, the Centre said it will step up investments in urban infrastructure, connectivity, housing, and civic amenities in smaller cities, reducing pressure on metros while creating new growth hubs. The move is expected to boost employment, attract private investment, and improve the quality of life in emerging urban centres.
Breaking from the budget speech, Sitharaman also highlighted a renewed push to develop and promote temple cities, with a focus on upgrading roads, public facilities, last-mile connectivity, and tourism infrastructure around key religious destinations. The initiative is aimed at strengthening cultural tourism while supporting local economies.
The continued emphasis on tier-2, tier-3 and temple cities signals the government’s intent to spread development beyond major metros, making growth more regionally balanced.
More updates expected as Budget 2026 is presented live in Parliament.
