In a strategic move, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is investing ₹920 crore to add a fourth production line at its Vithalapur facility, Gujarat. This expansion will increase the plant's annual production capacity by 6.5 lakh units, reaching a total of 2.61 million units by 2027. Once completed, this will make the Vithalapur plant the largest motorcycle assembly facility in Honda's global network.
The new production line will specialise in manufacturing 125cc-class motorcycles, a segment that enjoys significant popularity in India. This expansion is expected to create approximately 1,800 new jobs, contributing to regional economic development.

HMSI's Broader Strategy & Global Milestones
This expansion aligns with HMSI's broader strategy to scale production in the world's largest motorcycle market. Currently, Honda operates four plants in India, with a combined annual production capacity of 6.14 million units. With the Vithalapur expansion and additional upgrades planned across other facilities, total capacity is projected to reach around 7 million units by 2027.
Notably, Honda recently celebrated the production of its 500 millionth two-wheeler globally, with the milestone unit being an Activa scooter manufactured in India.
