The Chief Minister of Telangana, A Revanth Reddy, has announced a comprehensive road sector policy aimed at expanding and improving the state’s road network over the next two decades. The plan was unveiled alongside the Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy at the Telangana Rising Global Summit.
What does the policy include?
Under the new policy, the state will increase its current road length of about 34,000 km to more than 53,000 km by 2047. A central part of the strategy is improving inter-district and sub-district connectivity. District headquarters will be connected through four-lane corridors, while two-lane roads will link district centres with mandal headquarters.

A ‘Comprehensive Road Network Master Plan’ is being prepared by the Roads and Buildings Department under the broader Vision 2047 roadmap. This plan will identify a core network of major routes and guide phased development targets for 2030, 2035, and 2047.
The policy outlines several major highway upgrades to be completed by 2035. These include six-laning the Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Vijayawada stretches of NH-44, four-laning the Hyderabad–Srisailam section of NH-765, and expanding the Nagpur–Hyderabad segment of NH-44 into a six-lane high-speed corridor.
