Bengaluru-based startup Island Computing has launched the general availability of what it describes as India’s first fully managed sovereign cloud platform, designed to keep data, hardware and cloud operations within the country and governed by Indian law.
The launch comes as businesses and public institutions face tighter rules around data protection, localisation and cybersecurity.
Island Computing Targets India’s Foreign Cloud Dependence
Island Computing said its platform is built entirely in India rather than being a local data centre attached to a foreign cloud network. Its control systems, data systems, identity infrastructure and audit logs are designed, owned and operated by the Indian company.
The company estimates that about 80% of India’s $26.4 billion cloud spending in 2026 goes to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and other foreign providers. It argues that this leaves some critical workloads exposed to jurisdictions outside India.
The company said its architecture takes into account requirements linked to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data-localisation rules, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) cloud advisories and the Computer Emergency Response Team-India’s (CERT-In) six-hour incident-reporting requirement.

Platform Promises Faster Deployment and Lower Costs
Island Computing said its platform can provision infrastructure in 90 seconds, while production-ready applications can be deployed in as little as three minutes. Network setup, tenant separation, scaling, monitoring and identity controls are automated.
In a company-published benchmark, Island Computing reported costs 30% lower than equivalent configurations in AWS’s Mumbai region, before committed-use or enterprise discounts.
The platform is now available to enterprises, government bodies and developers across India, with partner onboarding for sectors including BFSI, healthcare, telecom, public sector, Internet of Things (IoT), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), video, gaming and agentic artificial intelligence (AI).
Founded in 2025 and headquartered in Bengaluru, Island Computing is led by co-founder and chief executive Vishal Sirohi, a former AWS Principal Architect. The company says its team brings more than 30 years of experience in large-scale cloud and distributed systems, with engineers from IITs, IIITs and BITS.
For India’s cloud market, the immediate question is whether sovereign infrastructure can combine regulatory control with the scale, price and ease of use that businesses already expect from global cloud providers.
