Wipro Executive Chairman Rishad Premji, while speaking at the company's 79th Annual General Meeting, said that 2024-25 was a year of radical transformation for both Wipro and the world. He detailed the company's fresh thrust to become a consulting-first, AI-driven technology company, describing the transition to artificial intelligence as a "foundational transformation" and not a fleeting fad.
This strategic move comes at a time when the global IT services sector is grappling with economic uncertainty, shrinking tech budgets, and growing demand for value-driven, outcome-based solutions. Wipro’s answer: blend its deep tech capabilities with strong consulting expertise, powered by AI.
Consulting Takes Centre Stage
Earlier this year, Wipro reorganized itself into four global strategic units—Consulting, Technology Services, Engineering, and Business Process Services. This structure increases the importance of consulting, with its acquisition of Capco taking a front-and-center role. The consulting business now directly reports to CEO Srini Pallia, indicating Wipro's desire to move up the value chain.Premji said that customers nowadays are searching for partners to co-create strategy—not simply do work. And with this transformation, Wipro is putting consulting at the center of its growth strategy.
AI Becomes the Backbone
Artificial Intelligence is now at the heart of Wipro's business. The firm has built more than 200 AI agents used across internal departments such as HR, finance, and legal, rationalizing operations and decision-making. AI is also integral to almost every large client engagement, producing quicker, more effective solutions. With more than 87,000 employees trained in generative AI, Wipro has made one thing plain: AI fluency is now business-critical.

Building Talent for the Future
Wipro is putting money into people to maintain its future in the fast-paced world of AI. It has collaborated with 63 Indian colleges to infuse AI-oriented curricula and is enhancing leadership skills through internal training initiatives and the Wipro Leadership Institute.
This transformation is bold and well-timed. As traditional IT services become commoditized, the company’s consulting-led, AI-driven strategy could redefine its position in the global tech landscape. Premji’s message was clear: Wipro is not just adapting to change—it’s gearing up to lead it.
