Driving the Narrative on India’s Telecom Evolution
Speaking during the panel session “India’s Impact: Tech Today, Transformation Tomorrow”, Lahoti highlighted how telecommunications has moved beyond being a support service to becoming a foundational pillar of India’s economic and social framework. His address reflected the scale, speed, and strategic direction of the country’s digital transformation journey.
He underscored the sheer magnitude of India’s digital growth, noting that by the end of 2025, the country had crossed one billion data subscribers, with nearly 400 million on 5G networks. The surge in wireless data consumption, touching approximately 25 million terabytes, including over 10 million terabytes from 5G alone, illustrates how deeply digital connectivity is embedded in everyday life.
5G Momentum and the Road to 6G
Lahoti emphasised that the rapid rollout of 5G is fundamentally transforming India’s telecom ecosystem, unlocking new opportunities across sectors. He also pointed to the government’s forward-looking approach through the Bharat 6G Vision (2023), which aims to position India as a global leader in next-generation telecom technologies.

AI: The New Backbone of Telecom Networks
A key highlight of his address was the growing convergence of artificial intelligence with telecom infrastructure. Lahoti explained that AI is no longer an auxiliary tool but is becoming integral to network operations—powering capabilities such as self-optimising networks, predictive maintenance, intelligent spectrum management, and enhanced cybersecurity. He also noted the role of AI within the regulatory framework, particularly in enabling telecom service providers to proactively detect fraud and spam, thereby improving consumer protection and trust.
Towards AI-Native, Future-Ready Networks
Looking ahead, Lahoti outlined a vision where AI becomes native to telecom networks, especially as the industry transitions towards 6G. This evolution, he said, will enable ultra-reliable, low-latency, and highly personalised digital experiences—setting the stage for the next wave of innovation.
