India Expands AI Services to Villages Through Digital Public Infrastructure
India is rolling out AI-powered services in rural areas using its digital public infrastructure to improve access to governance, healthcare, and agriculture support.

India is expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) services in rural areas through its digital public infrastructure (DPI) framework. The aim is to bridge the digital gap and improve access to important services.

A recent report outlines how AI-led solutions are being integrated into governance, agriculture, healthcare and financial services at the village level. The move comes under the government’s broader digital inclusion strategy and builds on existing platforms such as Aadhaar, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and DigiLocker.

AI-Powered DPI Targets Including Rural Areas

The report outlines how AI is being deployed across rural India using the country’s DPI stack. In healthcare, AI-enabled platforms support early diagnosis and teleconsultation services in remote regions. Similarly, digital governance services are now being simplified through AI-driven interfaces. This reduces dependency on physical documentation and manual processes.

The expansion is backed by real-time efforts to strengthen connectivity and digital literacy in villages. The integration of AI with DPI is expected to reduce service delivery gaps and improve efficiency across sectors.
