Rajasthan just entered India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem with the launch of its first semiconductor packaging and testing facility in Bhiwadi.

This progress further strengthens India’s push to build a domestic electronics and chip supply chain. The facility, operated by Sahasra Semiconductors, has been inaugurated under the central government’s Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS).

The project marks Rajasthan’s first Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) unit. It also becomes India’s first small- and medium-enterprise-led semiconductor packaging facility focused on memory products. The launch comes as India accelerates investments in semiconductor manufacturing, chip packaging, electronics production and supply chain localisation under the India Semiconductor Mission.

Bhiwadi Facility Targets Domestic and Export Markets

The semiconductor unit has been set up at the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Salarpur, Khushkhera, near Bhiwadi in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. The project has attracted more than ₹150 crore in investment and operates from a 57,000-square-foot facility equipped with Class 10K and Class 100K cleanroom infrastructure.

The plant focuses on semiconductor assembly & packaging for memory chips, MicroSD cards, flash storage products, LED driver integrated circuits (ICs), eSIMs and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices. The company said the facility has been designed to support both domestic demand and exports with advanced manufacturing and quality systems.

During the inauguration, the company also flagged off shipments of semiconductors and electronics to Germany and Nepal, signalling early export ambitions from the Rajasthan unit.

Rajasthan Pushes Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing Expansion

The launch falls in line with Rajasthan’s broader semiconductor policy, announced earlier this year. The aim is to attract investments in chip packaging, testing, sensor manufacturing and electronics production. The state government is positioning regions, including Bhiwadi and the Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar belt, as emerging semiconductor and electronics manufacturing hubs.

Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav attended the inauguration virtually. Officials described the project as part of India’s wider effort to reduce import dependence and strengthen semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.

The development adds to India’s growing semiconductor infrastructure pipeline as the country expands chip manufacturing, ATMP facilities, electronics manufacturing clusters and semiconductor supply chain investments across multiple states.
