Walt Disney has actively started to embed generative AI into its operating model. The move comes as a part of a wider effort to increase technology use across creative, marketing and business functions.

The move marks a shift from pilot projects to organisation-wide deployment. Disney executives said the focus is on placing AI tools directly inside existing workflows rather than treating them as standalone experiments.

How is Disney Doing it?

The company is using generative AI to support areas such as content development, audience insights, marketing optimisation and internal productivity. The company is introducing tools with defined guardrails. The aim is to align with Disney’s intellectual property standards and creative controls.

“AI adoption will be incremental and purpose-driven. Each business unit will be responsible for identifying use cases that improve efficacy without tempering brand integrity.”

Governance, Partnerships and Enterprise Controls

Disney is deploying AI with a structured governance framework. The company is working with external technology partners, including OpenAI. This goes ahead while maintaining restrictions on how Disney’s intellectual property is accessed or reproduced. Actor likenesses, voices and sensitive creative materials are excluded from AI training and generation.

The approach is supposed to bring a balance of innovation alongside risk management. This is important as regulators and rights holders analyse the use of AI in media and entertainment.

Industry observers see Disney’s strategy as a template for large content companies seeking to operationalise generative AI without disrupting creative pipelines or exposing core assets.
