Dehradun’s Graphic Era (Deemed to be University) marked a significant milestone in artificial intelligence education and research as Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, inaugurated the “Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, Skill Development, and Innovation”. Addressing students, researchers, and faculty, he emphasised the need for integrity in AI applications, stating that technology without ethical guidance could lead to misuse such as deepfakes and misinformation.

Dr Singh highlighted that artificial intelligence holds the potential to transform society when applied with responsibility and moral judgment. He cautioned against blind reliance on technology and advocated for a “hybrid model” that integrates AI tools with human intelligence. According to him, integrity is indispensable in technological progress, and there is no substitute for it.

First-of-its-Kind AI Facility in Uttarakhand

The newly inaugurated centre spans over 1.5 lakh sq. ft and is Uttarakhand’s first advanced AI hub. It features an Apple iOS Development Centre in collaboration with Apple and Infosys, along with the state’s first NVIDIA AI and High-Performance Computing (HPC) facility. This includes the NVIDIA DGX B200 system equipped with 8 GPUs and 1.74 TB of GPU memory, making it a world-class platform for research and development.

Developed with an investment exceeding ₹10 crore, the Centre will boost innovation across key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, environmental sustainability, smart city development, and advanced industries. Researchers, startups, and students will benefit from access to cutting-edge infrastructure and industry partnerships.

AI for Social Impact & Governance

Dr Singh shared examples from his own initiatives, such as AI-enabled telemedicine vans that provide healthcare in rural regions where medical access is limited. These services utilise hybrid AI-human models to offer solutions where conventional infrastructure is absent. He also explained how AI can enhance government grievance redressal systems by improving efficiency, though he stressed that technology without accountability cannot meet citizen expectations.

India’s Technological Growth & Integrity-Focused Innovation

Reflecting on India’s journey from being a late adopter of technology to becoming a global leader in space exploration and quantum research, Dr Singh emphasised the importance of connecting academic research with industry and startups. He underlined that while technology is powerful, its utility is limited without ethical application. “Only by combining innovation with integrity can we truly shape India’s digital future,” he asserted, calling upon students and professionals alike to embrace responsible technology development.
