The Karnataka government has formed an expert committee to develop guidelines for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI), as the technology is rapidly being adopted across sectors. The move is aimed at creating a policy framework that supports innovation while addressing concerns around accountability, transparency and data governance.

Officials said the committee will study how AI systems are being deployed in industry, research and public services. The panel will review global practices and assess how similar regulatory approaches can be adapted to Karnataka’s technology ecosystem.

Policy Framework to Guide Responsible AI Use

The committee will work on recommendations to ensure that AI technologies are deployed responsibly and transparently. Its mandate includes identifying potential risks associated with AI systems and suggesting safeguards for ethical development and deployment.

Officials indicated that the panel will examine areas such as transparency in automated decision-making, data protection standards and mechanisms to prevent misuse of AI tools. The goal is to develop a framework that allows innovation while ensuring oversight as AI adoption expands across businesses and government services.

Consultation with Industry, Academia and Technology Experts

The panel is expected to consult with industry leaders, academic researchers and policy experts before submitting its recommendations. These consultations will help assess the practical challenges companies face when developing or deploying AI solutions.

Karnataka has been positioning itself as a key hub for emerging technologies in India, including artificial intelligence, deep technology and digital platforms. Policymakers say a responsible AI policy will help create clearer guidelines for companies operating in the sector while supporting the state’s technology-driven growth strategy.

The committee’s recommendations could shape future regulations and standards for AI deployment in the state, particularly as India continues to explore governance frameworks for emerging technologies.
