India has approved the second set of proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), advancing its push to build a stronger domestic electronics supply chain. The latest approvals cover 17 new manufacturing projects with committed investments of ₹71.72 billion (US$808 million) and an expected output of ₹651.11 billion (US$7.33 billion). According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the projects are to generate 11,808 direct jobs.
The scheme is central to India’s goal of moving beyond device assembly to developing a competitive components and sub-systems ecosystem. MeitY noted that the initiative aligns with the country’s ambition of creating a US$500 billion electronics manufacturing industry by 2030-31.

Manufacturing Spread Across Nine States
The new approvals span nine states—Goa, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, reflecting a deliberate push toward geographically distributed manufacturing.
By encouraging expansion across emerging industrial clusters, the government aims to reduce reliance on major metro-based hubs while enabling high-skill job creation nationwide. For companies, this spread offers broader supply chain diversification and the potential for deeper partnerships across multiple regions.
Wide Range of High-Demand Components
The approved projects cover components used in priority sectors such as smartphones, IT hardware, wearables, telecom, electric vehicles, defence, medical devices, and renewable energy.
